The Association of Resident Doctors, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, (UITH-ARD) on Tuesday (26th November, 2024) in Oke-Ose, in Ilorin, offered free healthcare and surgical intervention to about 200 indigent.
Speaking at the Medical outreach at Model Primary Health Care Center, Oke -Ose, Dr Yusuf Jamiu, the President, ARD UITH, pointed out that the turn out of the commuters is impressive.
He stated that both the elderly and young people turned out en-masse.
“It has been nice experience coming to the community and give the little that we can. We try to attend to many medical cases as possible.
“We planned to have at least 20 eye surgery for those that are qualified after the screening. We will operate them at the mega eye center hospital,” he said.
Jamiu explained that the medical outreach was supported with well-meaning Nigerians and philanthropist who pooled in their resources to save the lives of the sick.
Speaking also, Dr Mariam Shiru, the Vice President of the Association noted that the association has provided free drugs for patients with hypertension and other health conditions.
She explained that those with eye problem, who require surgery, while also receive free operations.
Dr. Abubakar Adeyemi, the immediate past President of the association gave health talk to patients before the commencement of the testing and medical treatment.
He counseled them on how to prevent and control communicable diseases, diabetics, hypertension, and other ailments.
He also advised them to improve on their diet, reduce intake of salt, sugar and maggi, engage in moderate exercise, take fruits and vegetable and go to nearest hospital to check their health status at least on in a month.
Alhaji Ibrahim Jinadu, the Baale Oke-Ose, who spoke on behalf of the community lauded the health care givers for the support.
According to him, the medical outreach is timely because many commuters in their town with various ailments could not go to hospital because of paucity of fund.
A beneficiary of the outreach, Madam Ramata Ibrahim, explained that she is hypertensive and the doctors gave her free medication.
She commended the doctors for the health intervention, saying that this medication will help save her life.
