The Yoruba Socio-political Organization, Afenifere has described President Bola Tinubu’s independence day celebration nationwide broadcast as an irrelevant activity.
Afenifere’s Publicity Secretary, Justice Faloye made the remarks while featuring as a guest on Diamond FM, Ilorin Kwara State popular Yoruba Language News and Current Affairs “E ba wa da si” on Thursday, 1st October, 2024.
It will be recalled that President Tinubu in a nationwide broadcast on 1st October, 2024 in commemoration of Nigeria 64th Independence day celebration outlined some of his administration achievements, steps to reform the economy and pleaded for patience from citizens.
Faloye maintained that Tinubu’s administration’s bad policies ranging from subsidy removal, naira floating and reckless spending have compounded Nigerians’ crisis.
“We can’t put all the blame on Tinubu’s administration but this administration’s wrong policies have impacted citizens negatively”.
“Tinubu removed subsidies without the refinery working, floating of naira at the same time and the administration went ahead to buy aircraft, exotic car and even a ship when citizens are struggling”.
“Tinubu’s administration should have encouraged local products patronage, imagine if he bought local made vehicles, some state governments would have gone ahead to purchase local made vehicles”.
“This administration said in its effort to control inflation, increased interest rate, how can business thrives?”
He furthered that Nigeria needs economy, cultural and moral restructuring to attain greatness.
“Nigeria needs restructuring, nobody knows the exact amount of crude oil this country is producing in a day, someone that has stolen public funds would still be accorded respect in the society”.
“Afenifere is saying public found should be used for the public according to late Obafemi Awolowo’s policy of social welfarism, low housing schemes should be introduced,
Faloye emphasized that President Tinubu’s nationwide broadcast was full of figures without having any impact on citizens”
“The President talked about increased in foreign reserve but what is the impact of the figure on the price of petrol”.
“Someone that knows the power of votes won’t take people for granted, President Tinubu doesn’t need people’s votes that is the reason he is coming up with bad policies”.
“Afenifere is ready to join coalition with any party that is ready to invest in social welfare in 2027, this is not about Yoruba”.
“Once the person comes from the right zone, we are ready to support the person”.
