A Public Affairs Analyst, Engineer Jacob Omotayo has described the money laundering case between the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, and a former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello as a national embarrassment.
Omotayo made the remarks while featuring as a guest on Diamond FM Ilorin, Kwara State “Diamond Breakfast show” on Thursday, 21st August, 2024.
It will be recalled that an Appeal court sitting in Abuja has ordered the former Governor, Bello to surrender himself to the EFCC over allegations of money laundering.
Omotayo emphasized that Bello’s case proves that impunity exits in the country.
“It shows that if you have a way you can get a way with anything and it’s not good for our image as a country “.
He further questioned the immunity clause that sitting Presidents and Governors enjoy in the country, which breed corruption and lawlessness. “If there’s no immunity for governor and President, Usman Ododo, Kogi State Governor won’t have done what he did.
He added that there is an ongoing rumor that Yahaya Bello is still in Kogi state government house, claiming someone hides under the immunity to rescue a wanted individuals and up till now the person can’t be found and the kogi state governor is still not call to question, that shows the level at which our law are being not effective.
