A public affairs commentator, Comrade Olarewaju Ishowo has reacted to the statement of the Former Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Chief Bode George, regarding the 2027 presidency of former vice president Atiku Abubakar. He made this known on Saturday, 31st August 2024, while featuring on a weekend political programme, “National Affairs” on Diamond Fm Ilorin.
Comrade Ishowo stated that Chief Bode George as a Nigerian has every right to express his opinion on issues of the country and outside the country; however the discussion of 2027 presidency is a misplaced priority.
“The comment of 2027 presidency at this point in time is a misplaced priority, not because it tackled Atiku and emphasised on the constitution of as a party, but I expected the elderly statesman to look at the issue from the governance angle not from the political angle, because in Nigerian political formula, the first two years is strictly for the governance”. Says Ishowo.
Comrade Ishowo pointed that Atiku Abubakar has been performing his due diligence in checkmating the excesses of government, adding that it is expected of Chief Bode George as an elder statesman in the PDP, to have reacted more on the present economic and security challenges in the country.
“As the case may be today, I must say that one of the notable voices in the country that is taking the current administration on governance is Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar amongst Peter obi and others. I can conveniently say that Atiku as a person, in terms of the current administration, Atiku’s voice is as constant as checking through excesses, corruption, and assumed bad politics from the current administration. I expected Chief Bode George as an aged PDP member to have talked about the present economy and situation of Nigeria, position of a party not being stated in the constitution is not our business. Chief Bode saying Atiku should have learnt from Joe Biden isn’t a valuable point “. Says Ishowo.
Comrade Ishowo while reacting on the directive of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), which gave a one month ultimatum to traders and other market stakeholders to crash their prices of both goods and services, stated that the reduction in prices of goods and services by traders and market stakeholders cannot be feasible without a proper framework by the government.
“We need to be serious as an individual, the example he gave of a blender being sold at the U.S at a particular price and being sold in Nigeria at a different price doesn’t have anything to do with the common people, the people in the village. A month Ultimatum is nothing but an empty threat, looking at the root of the matter, it has to do with the federal government who Mr Tunji happens to be one of their employees, maybe they have summoned the Food Association Sellers and is not captured in the news. The prices of Food cannot be brought down for the common man because a framework isn’t designed; each state is supposed to have at least 5 agricultural hubs. The price of food will not come down, because a lasting solution hasn’t been defined to the issue on ground “. Says Ishowo.
