The Nationwide protest which has been gaining traction on X (formerly known as
twiter) scheduled to take place from the 1 st to 10 th of August, aimed at addressing
multiple grievances against the current government of Nigeria, has sparked up
various reactions from individuals and stakeholders.
Amongst the demands of the protesters are; an end to subsidy scam, the
reduction of fuel price to 300 naira per liter, reverting tertiary education fees to
previous rates, restoring affordable electricity tariffs, reinstating previous import
duty rates, publicly disclosing and reducing the salaries and allowances of all
Senators, House of Representative members and the Speaker.
Diamond fm news correspondents sampled varying reactions from individual in
ilorin metropolis. A Businessman, Mr. Lawal Olanrewaju while opposing the
protest as wrong move stated that the government is aware of the hardship Nigerians are experiencing, adding that the protest will only lead violence and loss of lives and properties.
Meanwhile a Corps member, Miss Olivia Godwin on the hand declared her
support for the protest,saying that it is a good initiative. She stated that it is the
right action to take in order to compel the government in taking appropriate steps
to improve the living condition of the masses.
