Ahead of the 21st September local government election in Kwara State the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), has reiterated its readiness to participate in the election.
Kwara State IPAC’s Chairman, Prince Oyedeji Oyekunle gave the assurance while appearing on popular Yoruba Language News and Current Affairs Programme on Diamond FM, Ilorin Kwara State “E ba wa dasi”.
It will be recalled that Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission, KWSIEC has announced Saturday, 21st September, 2024 as local government election day across the 16 local government areas in the State.
Oyekunle applauded the state electoral commission for carrying every political party along during the build up to the election.
“We have held three different meetings since the date of the election was picked, KWSIEC has been carrying along all political parties fielding candidates in the election”.
“We hope the commission will continue engaging all stakeholders to ensure credible election but once we noticed that the commission is not doing the right thing, I will be here to condemn them”.
Oyekunle that doubles as the Kwara State Chairman of the Allied People’s Movement, APM furthered that the party has confidence in the commission to conduct fair and credible election.
“Every political party participating in this election has been receiving official communication from KWSIEC”.
“I was called to receive a letter as Kwara State APM chairman and I know this is ditto to every political party participating in the election”.
“When it was time for Adhoc staff training, we were informed. We hope KWSIEC will continue to the end”.
He called on Kwarans to come out en-mass to participate and elect their local government leaders.
“Local government is the closest to the people, we can’t see the Governor, we can’t see the Senator but Local Government Chairmen are known by the people”.
“The day is not a time for our youths to be playing football, they should go out to cast their votes and elect the candidates of their choice”.
Oyekunle applauded the Supreme Court judgment that granted financial autonomy to the local governments in the country.
“This is what we have been saying that local government should be free from the shakle of the Governors, President Bola Tinubu has taken a bold step”.
“Those Governors that are against this judgment are anti masses”.
