The Kwara State government has lambasted the previous administration of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP for wasting N6 billion on water reticulation projects in the State.

The State Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon Usman Yunusa Lade made the remarks while featuring as a guest on Diamond FM Ilorin, Kwara State popular Yoruba Language News and Current Affairs programme “E bawa dasi” on Tuesday, 21st January, 2025.

Lade emphasized that the previous administration of the opposition PDP in the State spent N6 billion on water reticulation projects but the same administration used tankers to supply water for Kwara State residents.

“During the PDP administration in Kwara State, the government used to announce that people should be ready for water tankers that will come to their communities to supply water”.

“But the administration of Governor Abudulraman Abdulrasaq has invested in water supply projects for Kwarans, Jebba people had water supply challenges but the present administration in Kwara State has finished Jebba water works”.

“The previous administration owed staff of the water corporation salaries, some of them have stopped coming to office, the administration of Governor Abudulraman Abdulrasaq off-set the debt and they are working now”.

“PDP administration in the state never invested on any meaningful project to provide quality water supply for Kwarans”.

Lade maintained that many households in the Ilorin metropolis are having constant water supply.

“Most of the houses in Ilorin the State Capital are having constant water supply because government has invested in Asa Dam, Agba Dam and Sobi Dam”.

“We have told any community that wants to connect to public water supply to reach out to the nearest water corporation office in their area, we run a 24 hour operation each day”.

He furthered that residents of the State should inform the ministry of any faulty water pipe because it affects water supply to other areas.

“The issue of faulty water pipes in the state is always a concern, sometimes, some of them are old or those constructing roads might spoil them, this always affects water supply to some areas in the state, I’m appealing to our people to always inform the ministry of water resources or the nearest water corporation office, we have competent engineers that will repair them.
