A public Affairs Analyst Dr. Sunday Olaifa has called for a constitution review to address illegality by governors.
Olaifa made the remark while featuring on Diamond Fm, Ilorin Kwara State daily breakfast show, “Diamond Breakfast Show” on 9th August, 2024.
It would be recalled that the former spokesperson to President Bola Tinubu in the South East, Dr. Josef Denge has called for the review of the Section 38, of the 1999 Constitution that provides immunity for the governors.
Olaifa urged citizens to demand for accountability and transparency from those in positions of power in the Country.
“We need a situation in Nigeria where we will be able to hold our public officers responsible… Only the presidency needs the Immunity for now”.
He further stated that governors should not be scared of prosecution it they don’t have any skeleton in their Cupboard.
“If you don’t have anything behind your sleeve you won’t be fearful of a removal”. Dr Olaifa added and concluded that the method will not work.
Olaifa reacting to allegations of corruption in the Nigeria civil service maintained that every citizen must be held accountable including agencies saddled with regulatory activities.
“Are you saying they are not doing enough”?
“If they are we will have lists of public holders sacked.. a lot is wrong with our system.” Dr. Olaifa concluded.
