A public affairs analyst and social commentator, Comr. Ahmed Adeyemi, has stated that our institutions in Nigeria must function well before anything else.

He made this known on a political breakfast show, Diamond Breakfast show today, 22nd of November 2024, while giving his views on the bill for a proposed six-year or single year term which was rejected by the reps.

According to him: “When you look at the bill, it is superb, with due respect to them, the reps might have thought otherwise. The bill is trying to step in the tide on other issues in the country. Most of them even with their conscience know that the bill is beneficial. He also asserted that ‘our democracy needs to be unique, it should be according to the way we are as a people, we should not follow the tide of other countries because Nigeria is a diverse country. Every year, every region keeps crying about marginalization the moment another region assumes power but this bill will put that in the oven, you cannot throw a baby and the bath water away.”

Meanwhile, he said: “The institution has to function first, as in every society, there are bound to be different kinds of people, people can be tamed by the institution, we should make public offices not very lucrative and less attractive so that people can tread with caution. The people of Nigeria function according to the ecosystem, what Nigerians care about is whether food is on their table.”

However, he said: “The institution of the government has been bastardized, a whole lot of tax reforms are going on, increase in crude oil production and tariffs favoring businesses, but where are all these money going into what Nigerians care about is what they can see on their tables and not empty promises made by the government, the wellbeing of every body is everybody’s concern.”
