Musibau Esinrogunjo, a chieftain of the Kwara State People’s Democratic Party, PDP has maintained that the “otooge” political revolution that happened in the State in 2019 has failed to deliver dividends of democracy to the people.
Esinrogunjo made the remarks while featuring as a guest on Diamond FM, Ilorin, Kwara State popular Yoruba Language News and Current Affairs programme “E bawa dasi” on Thursday, 3rd October, 2024.
“Otooge” is a political revolution spearheaded by the All Progressives Congress, APC that occurred in Kwara State in the 2019 general election and ended the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, 16 years rule in the State.
The revolution produced Abdulraman Abdulrasaq as the State Governor, he won reelection for a second term in 2023.
Esinrogunjo furthered that many political promises that were made prior to the 2019 general election were not fulfilled.
“I was part of the people that started otooge political revolution in 2019, we thought new government should be able to provide good road, improved workers welfare and organized local government election”.
“This government failed to organize a local government election and used the Transition Interim Committee, TIC, for years, people at the grassroot never received dividends of democracy”.
“I told the TIC Chairman in Ilorin West that he can’t clear the busy environment at the council Secretariat, is this the same person that will do a good road?”.
“We agreed during the struggle to implement a good welfare package for our workers but Governor Abdulrasaq started doing what the previous administrations did by taking over all aspects of governance”.
“Most of the roads the Governor is doing are local government projects, local government funds must get to the people at the grassroots”.
“When I discovered that this administration has reneged on our promises, I have to resign”.
“I have said before that I wanted to resign within the first 6 months but I stayed up to a year hoping the Governor will listen”.
“Most of those talking about otooge now were not part of the struggle, I will always say the truth”.
“The government said they gave me 20 contracts but I can say that I was given just that stadium contract, I challenge this government to name other projects awarded to me”.
He maintained that the local government election that was conducted in the state was a charade.
“APC knows they didn’t win the election, there were results given to us at the polling units but they declared another results by the state electoral commission”.
“Results that ought to be declared at the ward collection centers, we don’t know where those results were declared”
“Those results they declared at the polling units were different from what the electoral body declared”.
“APC members can’t even jubilate after the election, they know they didn’t win the election”.
“People are saying we are using another TIC in the state”.
“Some members of the APC are still meeting with me”.
