A public affairs commentator and lecturer in Ilorin, Dr. Sunday Olaifa has expressed his surprise on the continued membership of the minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike in the people democratic party (PDP), in reaction to the call by the elder statesman, Edward Clark, for the leadership of the party to expel him due to his alleged anti-party activities.
Olaifa made this known on Thursday, August 22, 2024, while featuring as a guest on Diamond fm Ilorin political magazine programme, the Diamond Breakfast Show. He stated that PDP has been tolerating Wike’s excesses due to Wike’s commitment and dedication to the party. He further disclosed that Wike’s actions might be as a result of the disloyalty he experienced from the party member as a contestant during the primary election, adding that losing Wike will be a disadvantage to the party.
The public affairs commentator also commended the chairman of the people’s Democratic Party for setting up an anti party disciplinary and reconciliation committee in preparation of the forthcoming elections. He stressed on the need for the party to win back the heart of Wike through these committee.
“He has done his deeds in PDP no doubt and as a very strong member, he contested for presidential Nigeria candidates .It was when they betrayed him at the primary election that Wike turned a new leaf. Wike has the blood of PDP no doubt , everybody knows judging by his activities in the party but Wike felt bad about the way the primary election turned out and then started acting against his party members”, he said.
He said ” A lot of activities that Wike has done,by now Wike should have been suspended from PDP judging by the anti-party activities he has been engaging in but the party has condoled him to this level and because of the election coming”.
“I want to Commend the effort of the chairman of the party ,by first establishing a committee that will discipline anti -party activities and establishing a reconciliation committee and the reconciliation committee should work seriously on Wike because if PDP lose Wike to APC,it will be very easy for Wike to go to APC because he is already working under Tinubu”, he added.
