Tinubu didn’t cause economic hardship says APC
By Taiwo Adeyemi
The Yoruba Socio-Political Organization, Afenifere has said all Nigerians must come out to protest against economy harship bedeviling the nation. A member of Afenifere National Caucus, Arch. Goke Omigbodun made this remarks while featuring on Diamond FM, Ilorin, Kwara State popular Yoruba Language News and Current Affairs Programme “E ba wa da si”.
It will be recalled that some youths have planned a nationwide protest #endbadgovernance scheduled between the 1st to 10th of August, 2024.
Omigbodun emphasized that all Nigerians must be on the street to protest against hardship facing the country. He added that “this protest is not for the youth alone, it’s for all Nigerians, only those in APC are not feeling the harship in Nigeria”.
He berated the Presidency for a statement credited to President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga for asking Nigerians to hold Labour Party 2023 Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi responsible for the planned protest.
Omigbodun said it’s obvious that the presidency is insensitive to the plight of Nigerians.
“I’m an Obidient, I have not been able to reach out to Peter Obi but I have spoken to some people that are close to him”.
“When I asked them about Obi sponsoring the protest, they told me that Obi can’t be planning a protest and a stakeholder like me won’t be aware”.
“Obi is not behind any protest, he is committed to helping poor Nigerians to escape from poverty”.
“This protest is not against the APC, it’s against all political parties in power in Nigeria”.
He furthered that some of the demands of the protesters are not what the country needs at the moment, he emphasized on restructuring.
“What Nigerians should be looking for now is restructuring, we should talk about devolution of power and resource control”.
“Afenifere is saying that each state should control its resources, unlike what is happening in Nigeria, let Osun State control gold in Ijesha land, enough of turning each state to begger every month”.
“Western Nigeria was able to build the first television station in Africa, ahead of Sweden and Netherlands”
“Northern Nigeria built Ahmadu Bello University by controlling resources from the region”.
“This sharing formula where Federal Government collect 53%, both State Governments and Local Government share less than 50% is an aberration”.
Omigbodun called on Nigerians to protest without violence and they should leave protest centers once it’s becoming violent.
“Protesters should leave protest grounds immediately, political thugs try to hijack it and the protest must be peaceful”.
While reacting on the programme, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Hon. Sunday Akere maintained that the present economic hardship should not be heaped on President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“Nigeria economic was in shamble before the administration of President Tinubu came on board, we shouldn’t blame him for the hardship the country is facing”.
