A Public affairs analyst and social commentator, Engineer Jacobs Omotayo has described with mixed feelings President Bola Tinubu’s Independence Day Speech, tagging it “uninspiring” and lacking take-away messages of hope for Nigeria.
Engineer Omotayo made this known while featuring live on the Diamond Breakfast Show earlier today. According to him, the withdrawal of subsidies from Premium Motor Spirit, fondly called petrol is the main reason for the economic turmoil, widespread hunger, rising unemployment, electricity tariff hikes and increasing insecurity.
“I received the president message with mixed feelings because the president didn’t consult with us before he removed the fuel subsidy just by mere pronouncement on the day of inauguration and the president himself must have seen the untold hardship the statement brought upon Nigerians for the president to come and tell us to be patience while people are dying of hunger and starvation is not a good story to tell.”
The public analyst emphasized that religion is greatly misused and that faith is personal, while also highlighting how public officials utilize religious oaths to assess their innocence in office, as demonstrated by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-rufai’s allegations on embezzlement of public monies while in office.
“Unfortunately, religion have been so abused by our politician, the issue of faith is personal, leave the issue of religion to God. If Nasir El-rufai have any skeleton in his cupboard let him go and explain himself to the judge, let him tell them in the law court what he has done with Kaduna State peoples money.”
He urged the government to make concerted efforts in alleviating the suffering of Nigerians, commending efforts of government in partnership with the Dangote Refinery aimed at turning around the fuel situation with hopes of better results.
