A public affairs commentator Librarian Comrade Joel Afolayan has berated the statement of the FCT minister Nyesom Wike which threatened PDP governors not to interfere into the affairs of Rivers state.
He said this while featuring on a current affairs political programme, the Diamond Breakfast Show, on Diamond Fm Ilorin, on Tuesday, 3rd September 2024.
Recall that on Saturday, 31st August 2024 while addressing the party members during the PDP congress in Port Harcourt, Wike threatened to cause a political crisis in the state of any PDP governor who tried to interfere in the party’s affairs in the south-south. The FCT minister also stated that anyone who is angry with his position in Tinubu’s administration should go and hug transformer.
Afolayan said that Wike’s statement should not be taken with levity by the party ‘’you see going forward, when PDP failed to have taken steps in the matter of Wike to somebody who’s critical of instilling discipline to any political party in Nigeria it suggest to them that PDP is not a serious political party and today, Wike is a member of federal executive council and he could go ahead and utter such statements, telling Nigerians he’s going to cause crisis, that’s a milder way of putting the same thing he said. He said he’s going to put fire in their states”. Said Afolayan.
Afolayan further reacted on the silence of the president regarding the FCT minister’s statement, which has exhibited traits of disrespect to the president and his office. He identified Wike as an employee and the Government as the employer who seems not to know that gravity of the statement he made, Afolayan said he’s still yet to see the president who has the gut to call the governors to order, including the sitting president Tinubu, and that shows how powerful the governors have become.
