Thomas Adewumi University, (TAU), Oko-Irese, Kwara State, will on Tuesday the 26th of this month graduate 26 students at her maiden convocation ceremony, with 6 bagging first class degrees.
The graduates in addition to excelling in their chosen fields of study, also acquired a minimum of two International ICT Certifications offered by Google, IBM, Coursera, and other Global Partners for Sustainable Development, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.
This was disclosed on Friday (22nd November, 2024) by Vice Chancellor, Prof. Franscisca Oladipo, during a Press Briefing held at the Senate Chamber of the institution.
According to Prof. Oladipo, the convocation is a testament to the Founders’ close to 30 years commitment to excellence in education
She further revealed that TAU is ranked 1st among the 20 universities that were licenced in 2021 and 4th among the 9 universities in Kwara State.
“5th among the 149 Private Universities in Nigeria, and 50th among the 274 universities in Nigeria. In Sub-Saharan Africa, we ranked 190 out of 1417 We have also been listed in the last two editions of the Times Higher Education (THE) World Universities Ranking as 37th in Nigeria and in the 2024 Impact Rankings, we were recognized for our contributions to the UN SDGs 1 (No Poverty), 4 (Quality Education), and 5 (Gender Equality)” says the VC.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Oyo State, OLUSEYI MAKINDE, will deliver the Convocation Lecture, with the High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia to Nigeria and ECOWAS- Humphrey Geiseb, set to give the Convocation Commencement Address.
In her words: “His Excellency Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, will be our Special Guest of Honours and will lay the foundation for the Faculty of Medical and Health building. Vice-Chancellors of the KU8+, other Vice-Chancellors of other university and notable heads of tertiary instititution and other leaders in academia, government, and the private sector.
I would like to use this opportunity to express our profound gratitude to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his commitment to the development of Kwara State and Kwara South as His Excellency has approved the upgrading of the General Hospital Omu-Aran to a Teaching Hospital.”
