Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abudulraman Abdulrasaq, Kwara State

Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abudulraman Abdulrasaq of Kwara State has said the present administration has transformed the state from bad governance witnessed during the People’s Democratic Party, PDP era.

Ajakaye made the remarks while featuring as a guest on Diamond FM, Ilorin, Kwara State popular Yoruba Language News and Current Affairs programme, “E bawa dasi” on Tuesday, 12th November, 2024.

He said civil servants in the state were denied full salary payments. Our people are looking for water but everything has changed under the administration of Governor Abudulraman Abdulrasaq.

“What was the state of education?”

“What was the state of our health care?”

“Civil servants are collecting their salary as at when due, our people are now enjoying good water supply, massive projects are going on across the state”.

“Our people can demand more from this administration but we are not backward in the state like  during the previous administrations”.

He maintained that those people that were aggrieved with the Governor after he came to office in 2019 have different interests from the Governor’s interest.

“The Governor never said he torn the party manifestos, that was a misconception, when he came to office, the previous administration left the state in comatose, it requires a pragmatic approach”.

“The government agency in charge of primary health care recognized only one registered nurse in the state, it was in 2013 that Kwara State has accessed Universal Basic Education Fund”.

“This administration was unable to commence any capital projects in the first two years, the Governor has to attend to basic things that will impact everybody in the state”.

“Everybody giving the Governor advice must know that the advice is based on their own knowledge, he will get advice from other people and he will pick the best for the state because he is responsible for everything”.

“Once we elect anybody as the leader, we must let him work independently, not trying to undermine him”.

Ajakaye furthered that Governor Abdulrasaq’s administration has invested heavily in the agricultural sector with the introduction of cluster farming but selfishness from some people is responsible for hight cost of food.

“There was a time that a bag of maize was N22,000 and the government started selling it for N10,000, some people went ahead to buy it by proxy and sold it at a very exorbitant price for the people”.

“This administration has given farmers free fertilizers and other farm inputs, we have enough farm produce, some of them will say the roads are not good, the price of transportation is high and will still sell for people at very expensive prices”.

“Kwara State occupies a very significant place in the country, a link between the North and the South but people call us a civil servants state, this administration is turning the State to a commercial state, we are reviving some moribund factories”.

“We are planning an international film award but the state is lagging behind in international hospitality, that is the reason for the international conference center and Kwara Hotel rehabilitation”.

He said the government budgeted over N12 billion naira for the social intervention programme to assist those that are vulnerable in the state under theKwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP).

“This administration is transparent enough that everybody can know the amount the government has budgeted for KWASSIP and after every quarter, there is budget implementation review.

“There are many programmes under KWASSIP, for our talented youths, special stipends for the elders and many other interventions for the people”.
