The Abia State Government has announced that it would pay salaries of civil servants in the state in batch and in arrears.
This is according to the Commissioner for Finance, Mr Mike Akpara, during a press conference in Umuahia, the state capital, emphasizing the determination of the present administration to completely change the narrative of owing workers salaries .
He also revealed that the present administration inherited a debt of N16.5 billion of salary arrears owed to workers in state-owned institutions of learning from the previous government.
The Commissioner also disclosed that the government would commence payment of the salary owed to state workers by “July or August”, with the hope of completing payments by the end of the year.
