
The Old Students Association of Lafiagi Teachers College, in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, says measures are in top gear to pay back to Alma mater and her host community.
The association made the disclosure today through her Chairman, Alh. FATAI AJAYI, while leading some executive members on a courtesy visit to Diamond 88.7FM, Ilorin.
According to him, the college, established in October, 1974, was free during their time and today boasts of individuals doing great in the field of education, medicine, security, politics and more.
“We deem it fit to give back what we learned and achieved. In those days, it was called ‘Universal Basic Primary Education (UBPE)’ and it was free then including feeding and accommodation, and have produced doctors, pharmacists, and so on, despite the fact that it is a teacher’s college” he said.
Alhaji FATAI also said that the association conceived the idea of sowing back to the community after meeting with Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji MOHAMMED KAWU two years ago, noting that the association has lined-up programmes, starting from Friday, the 11th of October, 2024.
“On Friday, we have programs like praying with the Emir, cultural display, the main event will come up on Saturday where we have awardees, giving people awards like the notable people in order to raise funds for the development of the community” the Chairman added.
In reaction, the General Manager, Diamond 88.7FM, Ilorin, Mr. MICHAEL OLANREWAJU, appreciated the association for the visit and promised to channel their demands to the management team.
“I will relay the request of the association to the management team so that they can discuss their request and look at some areas that they can collaborate with the old students.”
The Alumni’s chairman was amongst others accompanied on the visit by the Chairman Central Working Committee- Alh. Tajudeen Lawal, Alh. Abdullahi Agaka
