Rev. Fr. John Ubaechu was kidnapped by unknown gunmen, in Ejemekwuru, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State. He is the Parish Priest of Holy Family Catholic Church Izombe.

The Owerri Catholic Archdiocese confirmed the abduction in a statement signed by its Chancellor and Secretary, Rev. Fr. Patrick Mbarah.

According to the statement, Ubaechu, was kidnapped on Sunday while on his way to the Priests’ annual retreat. The Chancellor and Archdiocesan Secretary of the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri, Rev. Fr. Patrick Mbara, confirmed the sad development in a press statement.

He included in the statement that the incident occurred along the Ejemekwuru road in Oguta and placed Rev. Fr. Ubaechu under the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Priests, for his swift release from his captors. Authorities have not yet released details on any potential ransom demands.
