Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has been applauded for efforts aimed at transmuting Kwara State College of Education (COE), to Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin.
The commendation was given today (Thursday, 20th June, 2024) by the President, College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU)- Comr. Smart Olugbeko, at a Congress held at the College. The President who was ably represented by the National Vice President and South West Zonal Co-ordinator of COEASU- Comr. Olusegun Lana, harped on the need for collaboration for a smooth and hitch free transmutation process.
“But even the biggest room has a room for improvement, like they use to say, so drawing from our experience in other places where colleges have been converted to university, there are some win-win ideas that we have that will even make the government to be happy for a smooth take-off of the University”, said Comrade Lana.
For his part, the Chairman, COEASU, Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, who is also the Sec. Joint Academic Staff Union of Tertiary Institutions in Kwara State- Comr. Yahaya Mohammed Ndaji appreciated efforts made by Governor Abdulrahman’s led administration in the state, calling for the government to carry them along in the implementation process.
In his words: “We want to plead with Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq, our supervisory Ministry, ably led by the Commisioner for Tertiary Education- Dr. Mary Arinde, who happens to be a good mother to all of us and the implementation committee chairman, that the college of education academic staff union be co-opted into the implementation period so that it’s going to be a win-win for both our members and the government “
Director, Directorate of Undergraduate Studies, COE, Ilorin- Dr. Mrs. Opadokun Olufunke and her counterpart at the Directorate of Continual Education- Dr. Abdullahi AbdulGaniyu-Niyas, welcome the development, hoping that government will do the needful for a quick upgrade of the existing facility in the institution.
Meanwhile, Governor AbdulRahman, on Tuesday the 11th of June through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary-Mallam RAFIU AJAKAYE approved that the Kwara State College of Education transmute into University of Education for ease of take-off and other logistic advantages.
