The Kwara State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo has said that some vehicles are restricted along the Ahmadu Bello Way and not banned as widely speculated.
He disclosed this today (Friday, 15th November, 2024) while featuring on the Diamond Breakfast Show, clarifying the current state of roads in the State and noted that the restriction of some vehicular activities along Ahmadu Bello Way is for public good, to most importantly sanitize the area, being the road serving the Government House.
“The commercial motorcyclists, commercial tricyclists and heavy duty trucks are the ones restricted; dispatch riders, shuttle buses are allowed to ply Ahmadu Bello Road” says Engr. Olododo
The commissioner, while applauding the pace of work on the Unity Bridge, assured residents in the state that the Bridge will be ready for use before the end of this year.
Engr. Olododo also charged kwarans and residents in the state to see projects embarked upon by the government as their project, stressing that developmental projects are scattered around the 3 Senatorial District of the State to ease the life of Kwara people.
In his words: “we are not just focusing on the urban areas, two weeks ago, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq flagged off a 209.77 rural road project, all these projects are spread across three senatorial district to the rural areas for farmers specifically, we are identifying more areas and the governor is giving support to ensure that we meet up with the scale up for the rural project for them to be able to cover up more locations.”
Recall that a statement released to DiamondFM on Wednesday and signed by the Press Secretary Ministry of Works and Transport, Olajide Abolarin, mini-shuttle buses, taxis, and ride-hailing vehicles were permitted to operate along the Ahmadu Bello Way, which sits the Government House, MDAs, Security formations and other facilities.
The statement reads in part:
“This clarification is necessary for public information. However, tricycles, motorcycles , and heavy duty trucks are not permitted on the road.
The step is driven by security considerations, and to ensure improved public order in that corridor.”
