The Delta State Waste Management Board has warned residents of the state to desist from dumping waste materials into drainages and unauthorized places in the state, saying that “defaulters would face severe sanctions.”
The warning was contained in a statement issued by the chairman of the board, Hon. Mofe Pira, copies of which were made available to journalists in Warri on Monday.
The statement partly reads, “Dumping waste materials at unauthorized places is a serious offence, as such actions usually result in the blockage of drainages and water channels, resulting in flooding that could endanger the lives of fellow citizens.
“Please note that the Delta State Waste Management Board under the leadership of the chairman, Hon. Matthew Mofe Edema, has zero tolerance for any negative practice that would endanger the lives of Deltans through indiscriminate dumping of refuse and other poor attitudes to waste management by some persons.
“Please be warned and assist the board in realizing a cleaner Delta State.”
Recall that recently, the board, in partnership with sister agencies, carried out the evacuation of drainages in Asaba and other places.
The board has since placed a high alert in these areas in a bid to apprehend offenders.
