The Federal Government has confirmed the evacuation of Nigeria’s index case of imported Ebola virus
disease from Abuja to Switzerland following significant clinical improvement.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, disclosed this in
a post on X on Monday, saying the patient was stable, conscious, communicating and showing
laboratory results approaching baseline.
Pate said the patient was evacuated alongside her husband, who remained asymptomatic, with the
process carried out under strict public health protocols.
He, however, warned that the patient’s improved condition did not necessarily mean she was no longer
infectious, stressing that infection prevention and control measures remained in place.
As Reported by Vanguard, the minister commended the medical and public health personnel involved in the patient’s care and
evacuation, assuring Nigerians that efforts to contain the imported infection were ongoing.
