Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was on Thursday (today) reminded of the need to continue to lead the charge of tracing, recovering and facilitating the return of Nigeria’s stolen wealth.
This charge was made today in Ilorin by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice- LATEEF FAGBEMI (S.A.N), at the Commissioning Ceremony of the EFCC Ilorin Zonal Command Office Complex.
” The recovery and repatriation of Nigeria stolen wealth is an issue of great concern to the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the EFCC is expected to continue to lead the charge to trace, recover and facilitate the return of our stolen wealth. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, let me State in unequivocal terms that the EFCC is pivotal to the Tinubu’s administration’s plan to remove the impediment to accountability in governance institution and strengthening mechanisms and platforms by which Nigerians can hold public officers accountable” Mr. Fagbemi added.
The Executive Governor of Kwara State and Chairman Governors’ Forum- Mallam ABDULRAHMAN ABDULRAZAQ, in his remarks applauded efforts of the EFCC in the state and Nigeria in general, pledging to sustain his administration’s resolve against corruption.
In his words: ” The fight against corruption is a national campaign we must all support , especially at institutional levels. Last week, our administration organised a three-day intensive training on compliance and anti-corruption practices, policies, financial monetary frameworks to keep our commissioners, permanent secretaries, head of MDAs and other top government officials abreast of the key issues in public finance management, sustainable reporting, tax fraud and other issues that relate with financial crimes.
Once again I congratulate the EFCC on this feat of having your own Zonal office”
On his part, the Executive Chairman, EFCC- Mr. OLA OLUKOYEDE, described the Official Ultramodern Complex as a worthy project which will help the Ilorin Zonal Command in the fight against crimes and fraudulent activities in Kwara and Ekiti.
“And I did promise the President, general members of the public, Nigerians that we’re going to use the instrumentality of law enforcement of EFCC to drive economic development. Under my watch EFCC will not be killing businesses. The days where businesses are attacked indiscriminately are over.
The delivery of this project is a Hallmark of our commitment to provide a conducive working environment for personnel and visitors to the commission. The facility, apart from providing office accommodation for all categories of staff also has purpose built interrogation rooms, holding facility for suspect and canteen that serve the need of both personnel and suspects in detention.
I’ll wish to state that we didn’t achieve this alone, it has taken the intervention of other stakeholder to fully deliver this project” he noted.
Amongst those that graced the Commissioning Ceremony is the Emir of Ilorin- Alhaji IBRAHIM SULU GAMBARI, Security Chiefs and some members of the state executive council.
