The immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasiru el-Rufai, has stated that the Federal Government has been subsidizing Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, also known as petrol, in trillions of naira.
El-Rufai stated this while speaking with Journalists after delivering the lead paper at a capacity-building workshop on Enhancing the Skills of Government Officials in Policy Implementation and Productive Human Resource Management for political appointees in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The former Kaduna state governor contended that if not for subsidy payments, the price of a litre of petrol would have been much higher than the diesel that is now sold above N1,000 depending on the location compared to petrol which is between N600 and N750 per litre.
Meanwhile reacting to Mallam El-rufai’s submission on petroleum subsidy, a lecturer at the department of mass communication, Kwara state university, Dr. Victor Babatunde, who was a guest on the diamond breakfast show today, disclosed in his opinion that the government should come out clean and make a
statement regarding payment of subsidy on petroleum.
