The Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru, has directed the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, to ensure that adequate security is provided for the repairs of the affected electricity towers in the country.
According to the New Agency of Nigeria (NAN) report, the grid collapse had resulted in widespread power outages across Northern Nigeria, causing significant socioeconomic disruption in the region.
The minister issued the directives in conformity with President Bola Tinubu, who showed concern over the recent grid collapse due to third-party interference that put people in darkness.
A statement on Tuesday in Abuja by Mr Henshaw Ogubike, Director, Information and Public Relations, Ministry of Defence said, “The directive to the CDS was imperative to prevent interference from non-state actors as workers repair the critical national infrastructure.”
The minister explained that the goal is to prioritise the repairs and ensure the grid’s functionality for the benefit of all citizens.
Badaru urged all Nigerians, particularly those in affected states, to remain patient and show understanding as efforts are underway to address the situation and ensure steady power supply in the country.
