In recent weeks, Nigerians have faced a sharp rise in the price of cooking gas, causing widespread concern and frustration. The increase has strained household budgets and pushed many families to seek alternative cooking methods. To understand the impact, our team spoke with citizens to capture their reactions and experiences.

Adeniyi Banjo, a sales representative at Vibe Royal Gas Filling Station, has expressed concern over the recent hike in the price of cooking gas, noting that it has led to a significant drop in sales.

Speaking during an interview with Diamond FM interns on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, Banjo explained that many customers are now turning to alternative means of cooking due to the unaffordable cost of gas. He described the situation as worrisome, particularly for low-income households who are already struggling to cope with the rising cost of living.

“The increase in the price of cooking gas has really affected our business. Many customers now buy less or stop coming entirely because they can’t afford it,” Banjo said.

A passer-by, Mr. Okoro, also expressed his displeasure over the situation, lamenting that the continued rise in gas prices has made it difficult for ordinary citizens to survive. He suggested that Nigerians might have to return to traditional cooking methods such as firewood or charcoal if the trend continues.

“I don’t know how to survive the hike in the price of cooking gas, I will have to shift to firewood and kerosene”, Mr Okoro said.

The recent surge in cooking gas prices has sparked widespread concern among consumers, who are calling on the government to intervene and stabilize the market to ease the burden on households.
