Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has urged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state to take advantage of the free transportation scheme introduced by his administration to ease their movement across the state.
The governor said the state government’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered buses, currently operating on more than 40 routes across Kaduna, were available to corps members and other residents at no cost, as part of efforts to reduce transportation expenses and improve mobility.
Sani disclosed this on Tuesday while addressing corps members at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream I orientation course, held at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp, Government College, Kaduna.
“I am pleased to inform you that the State Government has launched CNG-powered buses to provide free, safe and easy transportation for our people. You are encouraged to take advantage of this initiative, as the buses currently operate on over 40 routes across Kaduna State,” the governor said.
He assured the corps members of his administration’s commitment to their welfare and security throughout their service year, urging them to remain vigilant and security-conscious as they proceeded to their respective places of primary assignment.
he governor reminded them that personal security was a collective responsibility, while encouraging them to respect the cultures, traditions and values of their host communities to foster peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding.
Sani also challenged the corps members to make meaningful contributions to the development of their host communities by identifying pressing needs and initiating Community Development Service (CDS) projects capable of improving the living conditions of residents.
He called on government ministries, departments and agencies, as well as private organisations receiving corps members, to provide conducive working environments and give adequate attention to their welfare to enable them to discharge their responsibilities effectively.
Reaffirming his administration’s support for the NYSC scheme, the governor disclosed that the state government had renovated hostels at the temporary orientation camp, assuring that efforts would continue to address other challenges affecting the welfare, comfort and security of corps members.
He particularly encouraged the corps members to consolidate the vocational and entrepreneurial skills acquired through the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme by maintaining contact with their trainers during the post-camp phase, with a view to becoming economically self-reliant.
The coordinator, however, appealed to the Kaduna State Government to further strengthen its support for the scheme, particularly through supplementary feeding arrangements during orientation courses and the introduction of state allowances to enhance the welfare and motivation of corps members.
Bawa expressed appreciation to the state government and other stakeholders for their continued support for the NYSC programme, noting that sustained collaboration would further enhance the scheme’s capacity to promote national unity, youth empowerment and grassroots development in Kaduna State.
