KAPPSA calls for regulations of  POS Business  in Nigeria

The President Kwara Association of Professional Point of Sales Agent Comrade Ridwan Ayinde Opakunle has called for the strict regulation of Point of Sales Agents business to reduce the use of POS for fraud and criminal activities.

Comrade Opakunle made the call on Tuesday in Ilorin during a one day conference organized by the Association with the theme ‘ ‘Structuring POS Business for financial and mental Safety’’.

He said the purpose of setting up KAPPSA is to set the standard for the POS business and guide against people using POS for fraud. He called for quality collaboration between the Association and security Agents, banks and other regulators to reduce the risk involved in the POS business.

Comrade Opakunle emphasized on the need for proper training and sensitization of POS operators on the law and regulations that guide its operation. He opined that many POS operators are in jail for offences that are avoidable if necessary training was conducted for them before they start the business.

He therefore solicit for partnership and collaboration between the Association and other critical stakeholders in the business like CBN, Fintech Companies, security Agents and Nigerian Bar Association NBA on regular training  for its memebers

Speaking during the conference, the representative of police, advised members of the association to get the information of their customers to help security agents in investigation in case of fraudulent transactions. According to him, POS operators get into trouble when they cannot provide information about their customers suspecting of fraud.

The Chairman Nigerian Bar Association NBA Ilorin Branch Sulyman Hassan Kosemani ESQ said Pos operators should see themselves as mini banks which need to do due diligence on their customers and make sure they secure their businesses from fraudulent individuals who use POS for their fraudulent activities. According to him, Point of Sales business has come to stay and the operators of the business must keep themselves abreast of laws guiding the business to ensure they did not run afoul of such laws.

Representatives of other security agents like DSS EFCC sensitize participants on securing their businesses from fraud. They advise them to provide necessary information to security agents anytime they discover fraudulent activities from any of their customers.
