Kwara State Health Insurance Agency (KWHIA) makes adjustment on premium paid to access health services in the State.
The Executive Secretary, KWHIA, Dr. Olubunmi Jetawo-Winter, made the disclosure today (Friday, 25th October, 2024) at a Press Briefing held at the conference room of the agency in Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital.
According to her, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s led administration in Kwara has worked tirelessly to subsidize the health insurance scheme by maintaining stable premiums for years, but noted that the rising cost of health commodities has placed an unsustainable strain on the system.
“This commitment has been reflected in the state government’s continued support to the health insurance scheme, which has kept premium prices stable and affordable for several years, despite rising inflation and economic challenges.
However, in the last few years, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen the cost of drugs, consumables, and medical services skyrocket, with prices rising almost 4 folds;” added Dr. Jetawo-Winter
The State health insurance Boss in her address said that with effect from 1st December, 2024, people in the informal sector will now pay #15,500 naira instead of #6,000 naira, while their counterparts at the formal sector will pay #18,000 for health insurance and not #9,000.
She added that “ a Family package (for a total of 6 members) for the informal sector will now cost N75,000. While a Family package (for a total of 6 members) for the formal sector is now N87,000.”
The KWHIA Boss seized the occasion to also appeal for more cooperation and understanding during this period, assuring all of affordable, accessible, and quality healthcare delivery for every resident in Kwara.
