The Kwara state house of Assembly has called on the kwara state government to ensure establishment of more modern markets in the state to stop the menace of roadside trading in the state.
This was sequel to a motion on notice titled “ Need to Relocate Roadside/Street traders on road setbacks to existing market in line with the urban renewal and road setback reclamation programmes of the Kwara state Government” by Hon. Babatunde Ayi Olatundun representing Ilorin North West constituency.
While leading the house on the debate of the motion, Hon. Olatundun observed that road side trading in urban centers has distorted the Urban renewal Scheme of the Kwara state Government even as she called for relocation of the displaced roadside traders to unoccupied open and locked up shops in the state.
Other lawmakers in their contributions identify the dangers inherent in roadside trading while calling on traders who display their market on road setbacks to desist from the act.
Speaker Engineer Yakubu Danladi Salihu while reading the prayers of the motion urged the state governor to direct the ministry of Business Innovation and Technology to draw up incentives and other schemes that will make existing unused markets attractive and affordable to interested traders in the state.
