
A total of three inmates regained freedom following the visit of the Chief Judge (CJ) of Kwara State, Justice Abiodun Adebara, to the Old Ilorin and New Custodial Centres at Oke-Kura and Mandala, respectively, on Tuesday (17th September, 2024).
The Chief Judge in his address, admitted to the overcrowded state of the facilities in the State and promised to make his visit to custodial centers for jail delivery a continuous exercise.
“It is within my constitutional rights to perform jail delivery which allows me to look into cases that have stayed long in court, inmates with terminal illness and minor offences which Community service can take care of” says the State CJ.

In a statement released last night by the Spokesperson of Nigerian Correctional Service, Kwara State Command- Mr. Adegbulugbe Philip, the State CJ. was accompanied by Hon. Justice Ibijoke Olawoyin, the State High Court Registrar, Mrs. Kudirat Yahaya and other stakeholders in the criminal Justice department.
The State Controller of Corrections Danmairomu Shuaib Ayodeji, who spoke on behalf of the Controller General of Corrections Haliru Nababa, applauded the Chief Judge, members of his entourage for the visit, and urged the released inmates “to be of good conduct, complying always with good norms of the society”.
