The Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Saliu Mustapha, has resigned his membership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State.
Mustapha on Thursday night announced his resignation in a statement.
He said in the statement that the decision followed recent developments within the party in the state.
‘’ I arrived at the decision after weeks of consultations and engagements with stakeholders, supporters, constituents across Kwara Central and other well-meaning Kwarans, ‘’Mustapha said.
He said his decision was guided by his belief that politics should be centred on people, principles and purpose.
According to him, where a political platform no longer sufficiently aligns with those convictions and the aspirations of the people being represented, it becomes necessary to chart a new political course.
He said, “Where the path of a political platform no longer sufficiently aligns with these convictions and the aspirations of the people one represents, the honourable thing to do is to chart a new course.’’
Mustapha, Turaki of Ilorin Emirate, expressed appreciation to the APC leadership, particularly President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the relationships and experiences he had gained during his time in the party.
He also assured his constituents, supporters, political associates and stakeholders that his departure from the APC would not affect his commitment to serving the people.
He said his political platform might change, but his principles, purpose and commitment to the people would remain unchanged.
Senator Saliu Mustapha, a governorship aspirant, is a strong member of the APC G15 in Kwara State.
The movement originally comprised ten APC governorship aspirants, members of the National Assembly, party elders and other influential stakeholders.
