The Kwara State Government has expressed its commitment in ensuring a clean and green environment in the state. The honourable commissioner for environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge stated this today, during a media engagement on the new strategies of the state government to eradicate indiscriminate dumping of refuse, as well as the inauguration of the environmental Task Force, held at the conference hall of the ministry.
She stated that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is deeply committed to the ensuring a clean environment and has given the mandate as well as all the necessary support to ensure a smooth delivery of the ministry’s activities. Aside the plans to eradicate indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the state, Hajia Buge also highlighted that the purpose of the media engagement was to keep the public updated on the several meetings, sensitization efforts, and resolutions with relevant stakeholders, adding that the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, has given his support for the cause.
The commissioner while highlighting some of the new strategies of the commission in eradicating indiscriminate waste disposal, stated that the commission has engaged 38 Commercial Waste Consultants and allocated them to different communities to collect refuse, adding that members of the public are expected to pay a monthly token or dump their refuse in government mobile collection vans or vehicles whenever they come to their community.
Hajia Buge further noted that the ministry under her leadership will not relent in community engagement and media sensitization in order to discourage unacceptable practices and also popularize the new strategies, stressing that the implementation and enforcement of the new strategies will be strict.
