The Kwara State Government has again warned traders and marketers to desist from encroaching on roads in their various markets or face the full wrath of the law.

The State Commissioner for Environment, Mallam Shehu Ndanusa Usman made this known during the enforcement exercise carried out by the newly inaugurated Environmental Taskforce led by the state Commissioner for Environment.

The Commissioner expressed his displeasure that despite the Ministry’s sensitization and advocacy on radio, television and newspapers on the need for marketers to adhere strictly to the State Environmental laws against encroachment of roads and indiscriminate dumping of refuse, most especially in the Ilorin metropolis, compliance is still a huge challenge.

He disclosed that lack of compliance has necessitated the enforcement, adding that offenders will be prosecuted.

The Commissioner therefore warned environmental violators to desist from violation of the laws, stating that, henceforth, anybody caught selling goods on pedestrians or road medians or dropping refuse indiscriminately will be made to face the full wrath of the law.

Mallam Ndanusa charged the marketers and residents of the state to join hands with the present administration in its efforts to sustain a clean and healthy environment

The Honourable Commissioner, had on his entourage members of the Taskforce comprising of Environmental Health Officers, Forestry Officers, Nigerian Police, Nigerian Civil Defense, KWARTMA, KWEPA, and Nand National Youths Council, among others.
