
- Armoured Cable Vandal Blames Hunger for Crime
The Nigerian Police Force, Kwara State Command, have paraded some suspects for kidnapping, cultism, culpable homicide, armed robbery and criminal conspiracy.
The suspects were paraded by the Commissioner of Police (CP), Victor Olaiya, on Friday evening (9th August, 2024), at the Police headquarters, in Ilorin, the state capital.
According to the CP, on Thursday the 30th of May, 2024, 7 members of a dreaded cult group were allegedly involved in the killing of USAINI USMAN and SULEIMAN GARBA, at a nightclub in Tanke area of Ilorin with 3 members of the gang still at large.
“Immediate and thorough investigation was launched to uncover the details and those behind this dastardly act, leading to the arrest of Ridwan Alabi (Boshi), Taiye Suleiman (Sly), Adebayo Habibulahi (Bibson) at their criminal hideout at Tipper Garage, Oyun Area in Ilorin.
The suspects also confessed to being member of the Eye Secret Cult Confraternity and admitted to the murder of Usaini Usman and Suleiman Garba” says CP Olaiya.
Mr. Idris Hussain, a father of 5, residing at Ita Amadu area in Ilorin, who was also paraded for vandalizing an electric transformer in a community at Oja Iya area, blamed it on hunger. According to him, this is his first time venturing into such, as his family were dying of hunger.
“We don’t have what to eat at home. My family is aware that I’ve been caught by the Police because hunger pushed me into this crime and I regret greatly”, said Mr. Idris in Yoruba.
The Commissioner in his address added that on the 6th of August, 2024, security operatives supported by the vigilante groups received credible intelligence regarding the presence of a notorious group of kidnappers in Babanla environs, leading to the arrest of 4 members of the Kidnapping syndicate.
“During the investigation carried out by the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, all four suspects confessed to being members of a kidnapping syndicate. They admitted to participating in multiple kidnapping activities in the Lata area via Patigi, the Omu-Aran area, and the Akuma area along the Egbe axis. The suspects also identified one Kachalla (alias “Dan-Gaskiya”) and another individual known as Gramazol as their leaders. They further disclosed that the AK-47 rifle used in their operations belongs to their leader, Kachalla.” He added.
CP Olaiya while praising the communal efforts of residents, called for more collaboration to enhance security of lives and properties in the State.
Meanwhile, among exhibits recovered are: Guns, 2 Cars, battle Axe, Transformer armor cable, a saw blade and charms.
