The Gender Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has attended to one hundred and fifty-nine (159) cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) over the last one year.
The State Commandant, Dr. Umar Mohammed, made the disclosure while addressing journalist at the Command headquarters in Ilorin, the state capital.
He added that in efforts to combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and protect vulnerable individuals within the state, the Command attended to 76 cases of domestic violence, physical assault and intimidation, 58 cases of abandonment of responsibility, 11 cases of sexual abuse and rape, 12 cases of threats to life and 2 cases of missing children.
Dr. Umar noted that several cases are currently in court, assuring the public that all offenders will be prosecuted in accordance with the laws of the land.
“our stance on Gender based violence is unwavering and we are committed to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to aggressively combat this societal menace.
I hereby urged members of the public to support the Corps by providing actionable intelligence to help prevent crime in Kwara State.” the Commandant added
