Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has ordered the fumigation of Igbokoda River and the distribution of nose masks and other health kits to residents following complaints about an offensive stench from the site of last week’s Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash.
The directive was announced on Wednesday by the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, amid concerns over possible environmental pollution and health risks.
Aiyedatiwa directed the Ministries of Environment and Health to begin extensive fumigation to prevent potential disease outbreaks.
He also instructed the Ilaje Local Government Area to provide water tankers for residents if the river is found to be severely polluted and unsafe for use, pending a lasting solution to the problem
