The Ondo State Government has announced that it trained 80 birth attendants in public hospitals in its continued fight against maternal morbidity and mortality in the health sector of the state.
This was revealed during a workshop held at Bolorunduro the headquarters of the Ondo East Local Government Area of the state was organized by the Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency, for the health practitioners.
According to the Head of Department, Obstetrics, and Gynaecology, University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, Dr Oladiran Ayodeji, who spoke at the workshop, said that the most common causes of maternal mortality are hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, sepsis and postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) are responsible for maternal deaths.
Dr Ayodeji, however, said the continuous monitoring of the implementation of Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response recommendations at the primary health centers is necessary.
