Commercial transporters in Osun State have been warned to be wary of being used by drug traffickers to move illicit drugs from one point to another.
This warning was issued by the Special Adviser on Transportation to Governor Ademola Adeleke, Yakubu Adejare, while speaking at a sensitisation programme on drug trafficking for commercial drivers under the aegis of Osun State Transport Management System, OSTMS, in Osogbo today.
Speaking at the programme organised by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, and OSTMS, Adejare said every illicit drug causes harm to the larger society.
“Commercial drivers should desist from the habit of being used by drug peddlers to move the items from one point to the other all because of money.
“Drivers also should be mindful of the harms illicit drugs can do to the larger society when in circulation.”
He stressed that a lot of the crimes being perpetrated by criminals were mostly carried out under the influence of illicit drugs.
He however urged officers of the NDLEA to be civil and polite in the discharge of their duties as commercial drivers can also be innocent of drug trafficking charges.
Speaking earlier, the State Commander of the NDLEA, Chidi Nnadi enjoined commercial drivers to always see themselves as partners with the agency in the quest to put an end to drug trafficking.
