The Sokoto State Police Command has said it is not aware of the kidnapping of 150 people in the Gobir Emirate of the state.
The spokesman for the Nigerian Police in the state, ASP Ahmed Rufai, revealed this to our correspondent on Sunday night.
Recall that Profe Bello Bada of the Usman Dan Fodio University Sokoto had revealed on Saturday in an interview with RFI Hausa, that after the gruesome killing of the Emir of Gobir, Alhaji Isa Bawa, bandits kidnapped over 150 people in the Gobir area, coinciding with the funeral of the late Emir.
He said the kidnapping cases were recorded between when the late Emir was killed and Friday last week.
The scholar said that this is not the first time that prominent leaders have been attacked, but it is the first time that an Emir has been gruesomely killed.
He described the killing as a challenge to Nigeria, saying that people will soon realize the gravity of the banditry problem that is killing people indiscriminately.
However, when contacted on Sunday night, the spokesman for the command, Rufai, said no such reports were brought to the knowledge of the command.
He however assured residents that the command will be working in tandem with the locals in the state to get more security information.
“We don’t have any official reports from the locals on such development yet in the area.
“Let me reassure you that the command will be working in tandem with the locals in the state to get more Intel on security for the benefit of all,” he said.
