An appeal has gone to the Kwara State Government to speed up the ongoing construction of a cross culvert aimed to solve the perennial flood problem along the Irewolede- Yidi road, in Ilorin, the state capital.
A cross section of road users and business owners in the area who spoke with Diamond FM Correspondents, Abdulhafeez Oyewole and Mukhtar Ajelogbon made the appeal at the weekend.
A Mechanic, Mr Adisa Wasiu; a food seller, Mrs Latifat Suleiman; okada riders, Mr Lukman & Mr Muhammed Jamiu Elewure and an interior dealer, Mrs Latifat Abdullateef Ogunlade explained how the condition of the road at present and diversion created have affected them and their businesses badly.
Motorists such as Miss DEBORAH, who observed that no signage to clearly alert road users of road-block or an ongoing work on the road, also noted that the road is a major advised the government to hasten up works on the road, remind it that the road is a major linking route to the city and other areas in the metropolis to avoid further hardship on the masses.
It would be recalled that the state government through a statement by the Commissioner for Works and Transport Hon. Iliasu Rotimi Suleiman announced a temporary closure of the road to last till early next month, while appealing to motorists to use the Customs Road, Stadium Road, Asa-Dam Road, Coca-Cola Road, and Taiwo Road.
