The Sarkin Gobir and Madawaki of Ilorin Emirate, Alhaji Yakubu Gobir, has appealed to the Sardauna of Ilorin Emirate, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the Turaki of Ilorin, Senator Saliu Mustapha, to rise above their political differences and preserve the bonds of brotherhood, mutual respect and shared heritage among the people of Ilorin.
Gobir, who described both leaders as his brothers and friends, also urged their supporters to shun personal attacks, provocative statements and campaigns of calumny. He stressed that political disagreements should not be allowed to degenerate into personal hostility or create divisions that could outlive the political contests that produced them, noting that political loyalty should not be equated with hatred for opposing camps.
The Sarkin Gobir further called on the two leaders to lead by example through dialogue and mutual respect, stressing that political offices, parties and alliances are temporary, while the heritage and unity of Ilorin remain enduring. He urged political and traditional stakeholders to prioritise peace, development and good governance, saying the preservation of Ilorin’s unity and dignity should remain a collective responsibility for present and future generations.
