The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared USMAN
ODODO of the All Progressive Congress (APC), as the winner of the Kogi state
Off-Cycle governorship election held on Saturday.
The state Returning Officer for the election, Professor JOHNSON URAMA who is
also the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of Nigeria Nsuka, Enugu State,
announced the results last night at INEC’s state collation centre in Lokoja, the state
capital.
INEC said ODODO of APC polled 446,237 to win the election out of the 791, 890
total votes cast in the election; thereby defeating MURTALA AJAKA of the Social
Democratic Party (SDP), who came in second with 259,052 votes, candidate of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)- Sen. DINO MELAYE scored 46,362 votes.
However, SDP’s MURTALA AJAKA, says he will not challenge the victory of
USMAN ODODO of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in court, as it’s a waste
of time.
According to AJAKA, the election was rigged in favour of ODODO, stating that
there were reports of pre-filled election results in some parts of the state before the
commencement of voting on Saturday.
